RocketFlag vs Unleash

An honest comparison. Unleash is a strong open-source flag platform priced per seat. RocketFlag is managed flags at one flat price for the whole team. Here's how to pick.

The short version

Unleash is a mature open-source flag platform whose paid plans charge per seat: US$75 for every person who touches it. RocketFlag charges A$79 for the whole team, however many that is. If self-hosting or enterprise controls are the requirement, Unleash earns its price and we'll say so. If your flag bill shouldn't grow every time you hire, that's us.

Choose Unleash if…

  • Self-hosting is a requirement. Unleash is genuinely open source with a large community, and the paid product runs cloud, self-hosted or hybrid
  • You need enterprise controls: SSO, RBAC, change requests and a 99.99% SLA are what the per-seat price buys
  • You need flag variants or built-in experimentation, which RocketFlag deliberately doesn't do
  • You need unlimited environments. RocketFlag caps environments at 7 per project

Choose RocketFlag if…

  • Your team is bigger than one: five seats on Unleash costs US$375/month, RocketFlag is A$79 for everyone
  • Hiring shouldn't raise your flag bill: every new engineer, PM or designer on Unleash is another US$75/month
  • You want a free tier: Unleash cloud has none; the free option is running the open-source version yourself
  • You want one number on the invoice regardless of headcount
  • Flag hygiene matters: Caretaker finds stale flags and writes the removal prompt for your AI coding agent

The seat meter is the whole story

Unleash’s Pay-As-You-Go plan is US$75 per seat per month. Not per developer, per seat. The PM who checks rollout status, the designer who toggles a flag in staging, the support engineer who looks up why a customer sees the old UI: US$75 each, every month. A team of five pays US$375/month; a team of ten pays US$750. The bill is a headcount tax, and it points in exactly one direction as you grow.

RocketFlag charges A$79/month for the whole team. Invite everyone: flags only work as a practice when the entire team can see them, which is precisely why we don’t charge per person.

To their credit, Unleash barely meters requests: 53 million API requests a month are included on cloud, US$5 per million after. Their meter is people, not traffic.

Where Unleash genuinely wins

Unleash is real open source with a large community, and you can run it yourself: cloud, self-hosted or hybrid. If your compliance posture or data-residency rules say “our infrastructure”, Unleash is the better choice and no flat price changes that. The per-seat price also buys enterprise depth RocketFlag doesn’t have: SSO, RBAC, change requests with approvals, a 99.99% SLA, and built-in experimentation with variants.

We’re the opposite trade: managed only, flags only, one price. Evaluations served in milliseconds from regions close to your users, and Caretaker keeping your flag list honest with AI-agent removal prompts.

Run the numbers at your actual headcount

Count everyone who’d ever need to see a flag, not just the engineers writing the code. Multiply by US$75, then look at our pricing page, where the number is A$79 and doesn’t have a multiplication sign in it. If you’d genuinely restrict access to one or two people, or you’re self-hosting, Unleash is good software and the honest pick. If the seat count is what’s driving the bill, that’s the meter we removed.
