RocketFlag vs PostHog

An honest comparison. PostHog is an excellent all-in-one product platform whose flags are billed per request. RocketFlag is flags alone, at one flat price. Here's how to pick.

The short version

PostHog bundles flags into a genuinely good all-in-one product platform, billed per flag request past the free million. RocketFlag is flags alone at a flat price. If you want analytics, session replay and experiments in one tool, PostHog is hard to beat and we'll say so. If flags on every request shouldn't show up on the invoice, that's us.

Choose PostHog if…

  • You want one tool for analytics, session replay, experiments and flags: the bundle is PostHog's whole (compelling) point
  • Your flag volume is under a million requests a month: PostHog's flags are genuinely free at that scale
  • You need a real stats engine for experiments. RocketFlag gives you a stable 50/50 split and leaves the measurement to your analytics tool
  • You're already paying for PostHog analytics: adding their flags is one SDK, not two

Choose RocketFlag if…

  • Your traffic is growing: per-request billing means the flag bill tracks your success. 20M requests is ~US$710/month there; A$79 here
  • You flag high-traffic or pre-login paths, where every evaluation is a billed request
  • You want a bill you can predict at budget time, not one that arrives after the traffic does
  • You want flags without adopting a platform: one small SDK, one job, no product suite attached
  • Flag hygiene matters: Caretaker finds stale flags and writes the removal prompt for your AI coding agent

A meter that starts generous and tracks your traffic

PostHog’s flag pricing starts genuinely free: the first million requests each month cost nothing, and seats are unlimited at no charge. At small scale it’s the best free deal in the category and we won’t pretend otherwise.

The catch is the shape of the meter, not the starting price. Past the free million, every flag request is billed at US$0.0001 each, stepping down as volume grows. Flags live on your hottest paths: page loads, API calls, session starts. That means the flag bill tracks your traffic. Five million requests a month is about US$235; twenty million is about US$710. The launch that triples your traffic triples the very line item that was free when you adopted it.

RocketFlag charges A$79/month at any volume. One customer serves millions of evaluations a month and pays what a three-person team pays. The invoice is boring on purpose.

Where PostHog genuinely wins

PostHog’s pitch isn’t really “feature flags”. It’s “every product tool in one place”, and it’s a good pitch. Analytics, session replay, experiments with a real stats engine, surveys and flags share one SDK and one data model. If you want that bundle, or you’re under a million flag requests a month, PostHog is the right choice and no flat price changes that.

We’re the opposite trade: flags only, done properly. Evaluations served in milliseconds from regions close to your users, and Caretaker keeping your flag list honest with AI-agent removal prompts, because a flag tool’s job includes helping you delete flags.

Run the numbers at your actual traffic

Estimate your monthly flag evaluations a year from now, counting every page load and API call that checks a flag, and multiply by PostHog’s published rates. If you land under the free million and want the platform, take PostHog; it’s excellent software. If the number that decides it is a per-request meter, that’s exactly the thing we removed.
